Board Certification/Eligibility
All of the physicians at the Fox Valley Orthopaedic Institute are board certified or board eligible.
What does this mean?
It means that they have committed themselves to the highest standard of patient care. This serves the Fox Valley community by ensuring the promotion of the health of the public through activities related to the education of physicians and the evaluation and recognition of physician qualifications. It means that the Institute insists on only the highest quality of physician for their patients.
The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery awards certification after the orthopaedic surgeon has met specified educational, evaluation and examination requirements.
The certification process requires that a physician be a graduate of an accredited medical school and have completed five years of graduate orthopaedic residency in an accredited program.
After completing the graduate work, the surgeon must pass a written exam, complete 22 months of practice, demonstrate professional proficiency and ethical practice and pass an oral exam.
The board certified orthopaedic surgeon must recertify every 10 years with the board. Recertification includes a review of credentials to determine if the surgeon has continued his education in orthopaedic surgery and is respected by his peers. The surgeon may also complete a written or oral examination or a detailed practice audit. This ensures that the surgeon is staying current with the many changing aspects of health care.
