Timothy S. Petsche, M.D.

Dr. Petsche has been with Fox Valley Orthopaedic Institute since 2000. He is an arthroscopy and sports medicine expert.

After graduating with honors from the University of Michigan, Dr. Petsche earned his medical degree from Michigan State university where he was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society.

He completed an internship and four year residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He was then awarded a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy in Miami, Florida.

He served as Assistant Team Physician to the Miami Heat professional basketball team during their 1999-2000 season. He served in the same capacity for the Miami Sol of the Women's National Basketball Association in their inaugeral 2000 season. Other athletic events for which Dr. Petsche has provided orthopaedic coverage include serveral tournaments of the Professional Golf Association, Senior Professional Golf Association and Association of Tennis Professionals.

He was certified by the United States Medical License Examiners in 1995 and has an active medical license in the state of Illinois. He is board certified through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Petsche is the first physician in the Fox Valley area to be certified as having a subspecialty certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

He is a member of the medical staff at Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva and Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin.

Dr. Petsche is a published author of articles on reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament and arthroscopic meniscus tears in the knee. During his residency, he was awarded the Robert D. Ray Award for the most outstanding research thesis for a study investigating the biomechanical strength of a new bone cement.

Dr. Petsche's interest in sports medicine originated from his own participation in athletics. While attending the Univeristy of Michigan he was a member of the highly ranked spring board and platform diving team, and was awarded academic all Big Ten and Big Ten conference scholar athlete awards. Currently, he enjoys participating in a variety of sports including soccer, golf and coaches his childrens’ sports teams.
