Central Processing Technician
Location: Geneva, IL
Status: Full-time (36-40 hours per week)
Days / Hours: M-F, flexible hours and no weekends or holidays
Summary
Responsible for decontamination, processing, inspecting, assembling, wrapping and sterilizing all reusable patient care equipment, instruments and supplies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Records and maintains QA log of biological testing of autoclaves and implants. Records contents of autoclave loads in accordance with AMMI standards.
- Decontaminates, reassembles and wraps instrument sets, and prepares peel packs for sterilization. Inspects all sterilized instruments and supplies for effective sterilization, integrity of outer wrapping and outdates. Reprocesses instruments and supplies as necessary.
- Oversees storage of all sterilized instrument trays, peel packs, and equipment on appropriate shelves or in bins following established guidelines. Acts as a resource person to team members regarding location of instrumentation.
- Checks inventories, prepares requisitions, receives deliveries, stores and restocks supplies, instrumentation and equipment as needed based on the surgery schedule.
- Implements safe practices and evaluation of environment of care including fire prevention, security, hazardous materials and waste management, emergency preparedness, infection control and safe use of medical equipment and utilities.
Education and/or Experience
Required:
- High School graduate
- A minimum of two (2) years central processing experience.preferably in an ambulatory surgery center, or a graduate from a Central Processing course.
Preferred:
- CBSPD or IAHCSMM Certification
