    This course is applicable for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for job, regulatory (e.g. OSHA) or other requirements.

    By the end of this course, students will have had hands on practice and be educated on the following:

    • Have the knowledge to identify the difference between sudden cardiac arrest and a heart attack
    • CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) for adults, children, and infants
    • AED (automated external defibrillator) use for adults, children, and infants
    • Be educated in the event of a life-threatening opioid-associated emergency procedure
    • Be able to properly identify a choking victim, and Heimlich maneuver technique for adults and children
    • Know proper procedure in the event of a choking infant
    • Students who successfully complete this course will receive an American Heart
    • Association Heartsaver CPR/AED ecard (electronic card), certifying them for 2 years.

    Class sizes are kept small, limited to 10 students per class. This allows for a more personalized, individualized experience with your instructor(s). The fee is $45.00 per student. Refunds will be minus a $5.00 processing fee.

    Iva Lira, MA

    Iva has over 17 years experience in the healthcare field. After graduating from Penn Foster College with a degree in medical assisting, she has worked in many different avenues of medicine. She is passionate about learning, and constantly finding ways to help those in need. Iva has extensive experience as an American Heart Association CPR instructor and is responsible for training the Fox Valley Orthopedics staff.

    Lindsay Knowles, RN

    Lindsay has over nine years experience in the healthcare industry. After graduating from Minnesota State she furthered her education at Northern Illinois University by achieving a Bachelors of Science in Nursing. She is a certified CPR instructor through the American Heart Association and enjoys empowering people with the skills that help save lives.

    BLS-Basic Life Support Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is a course that covers the basics for healthcare providers who need to know how to perform CPR, use an AED, and other basic skills as follows:

    • High-quality CPR/AED use for adults, children, and infants
    • AHA chain of survival for pre-hospital and in-facility providers
    • The importance of early use of an AED
    •  The use of barrier devices, pocket mask and ambu bag
    • Emphasis on team / multi rescuer resuscitation and how to be and effective team member
    • How to perform 1 person, 2 person, and multi rescuer team CPR
    • How to relieve a choking victim of all ages (foreign body airway obstruction)
    • What to do in the event of a opioid-associated life-threatening overdose event

    This course conclusion will include a written test, in addition to skills testing to assess your ability to perform high-quality CPR and use the AED properly and effectively. Students who successfully complete the course will receive an ecard (electronic certification card) certifying them in BLS/AED Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association for 2 years.
