Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgeon
Dr. Sostak is a board-certified orthopedic physician who specializes in treating sports-related injuries in athletes of all levels. From fractures and sprains to painful joints, he treats a wide range of conditions. From the youth athlete to the weekend warrior, injury prevention starts with proper techniques—a topic Dr. Sostak places considerable importance and discusses with each patient.
Dr. Sostak personalizes treatment to meet the needs and goals of each individual. He takes a multidisciplinary approach to patient care including non-surgical treatments such as focused physical therapy, anti-inflammatory treatments including injections and orthopedic biological therapies such as PRP (platelet rich plasma). When non-surgical treatment won’t solve the issue, he is well trained in orthopedic surgical options.
When treatment necessitates surgery, Dr. Sostak is a foremost specialist in minimally invasive arthroscopy to optimize an athlete’s recovery and return to activity. He performs the latest leading-edge procedures in:
- Shoulder, hip, and knee arthroscopy
- Meniscus repair
- ACL reconstructions
- Hip labral repair
- Rotator cuff repair
- Shoulder labral repair
- Shoulder instability surgery
Advanced procedures:
- Revision rotator cuff repair
- Revision shoulder stabilization
- Total shoulder arthroplasty
- Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty
- Complex proximal humerus fracture care
To aid in the recovery process—whether it be nonsurgical or postsurgical, Dr. Sostak works closely with physical therapists to ensure continuity of care. Mobility training, therapeutic treatment and physical therapy are important to improve pain and swelling, regain range of motion, regain strength and ultimately return to sports/work/other recreational activity.
An athlete himself...Dr. Sostak still holds the NCAA record for most consecutive hits as a baseball player at Benedictine University, and was a member of the NCAA Academic All-American Baseball team.
