About Dr. Chatterji
Dr. Rishi Chatterji is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in the comprehensive care of the shoulder and elbow. A Chicago area native who grew up in Barrington, Illinois, Dr. Chatterji is honored to return home and to provide advanced orthopedic care for patients throughout the community.
With advanced subspecialty training in shoulder and elbow surgery, Dr. Chatterji treats the full spectrum of conditions affecting these joints, from arthritis and rotator cuff disease to sports injuries, instability, and fractures. His surgical expertise includes anatomic and reverse shoulder replacement, revision shoulder replacement, arthroscopic surgery, rotator cuff repair, treatment of shoulder instability, and fracture care.
Dr. Chatterji believes that excellent orthopedic care is built on a strong physician-patient relationship. He takes the time to understand each patient’s symptoms, goals, and lifestyle before developing an individualized treatment plan. Whenever appropriate, he emphasizes non-surgical treatment and rehabilitation. When surgery is indicated, he utilizes modern techniques and evidence-based approaches with the goal of providing durable pain relief, restoring function, and helping patients return to the activities that matter most to them.

Education & Advanced Training
Dr. Chatterji earned his Bachelor of Applied Science in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania, graduating cum laude from the School of Engineering and Applied Science. He went on to earn his medical degree from Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, where he graduated with high honors and was recognized with a Gold Humanism Honor Society Spotlight Award.
He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Henry Ford Providence Hospitals in collaboration with Michigan State University. His residency provided extensive training across joint reconstruction, sports medicine, and orthopedic trauma, giving him a broad foundation in the treatment of both acute and degenerative musculoskeletal conditions.
Following residency, Dr. Chatterji completed an advanced Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship at the Paley Orthopedic Institute in Florida. During fellowship, he trained with high-volume shoulder and elbow surgeons, including Dr. Jonathan Levy, an internationally recognized leader in the field.
Today, Dr. Chatterji’s practice is dedicated exclusively to the comprehensive care of the shoulder and elbow. His surgical expertise includes anatomic and reverse shoulder replacement, revision shoulder replacement, rotator cuff repair, treatment of shoulder and elbow instability, arthroscopic procedures, sports injuries, and upper extremity fractures and trauma.
Research, Innovation & Professional Leadership
Dr. Chatterji is committed to advancing the field of shoulder and elbow surgery through clinical research, education, and innovation. His academic work has focused on improving surgical techniques, orthopedic implants and technology, and patient outcomes.
He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and has presented his research at national orthopedic meetings, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), Mid-America Orthopaedic Association (MAOA), and Shoulder360.
Dr. Chatterji is an active member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES), American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), and Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA).
Outside of medicine, Dr. Chatterji enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing music and attending concerts, traveling to national parks and other countries, and is passionate about personal fitness, tennis, and golf.
