Dr. Vishal Mehta is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who practices out of the Fox Valley Orthopedic Institute in Geneva and Elgin, and is on staff at Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva, Sherman Hospital and Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, Ill. He specializes in orthopedic sports medicine with an emphasis on arthroscopic procedures of the shoulder and knee, cartilage restoration and transplantation, shoulder replacement and the comprehensive care of athletic injuries. He also serves as a team doctor for the Kane County Cougars. Dr. Mehta has recently been featured in CLTV segments titled Preventing Knee and Ankle Injuries, 3/7/09 and Preventing Ankle Injuries, 3/14/09.
As president and founder of the Fox Valley Orthopedic Research Foundation, a laboratory designed to test and develop orthopedic implants, Dr. Mehta is very active in clinical and basic research. He is the author of more than 15 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and serves as a reviewer for both The American Journal of Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy. Active in the community, Dr. Mehta was recently awarded Delnor Hospital’s Humanitarian award for outstanding service to the community and has been nominated for the American Red Cross’ Hometown Hero award. He is the president and founder of the Foundation for International Orthopedic Development, a non-for-profit organization chartered to develop and teach arthroscopic surgery in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Dr. Vishal Mehta received his doctorate of medicine from the University of Illinois at Chicago, followed by an internship and then residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Chicago. He completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy in San Diego, California. During his training he received both the OREF resident leadership award and the resident research award, was podium presentation winner at the OREF Midwest Research Symposium and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society.
