Rheumatologist Dr. Raheem Nazeer Returns to His Fox Valley Orthopedic Family

Patients and staff are happy that rheumatic disease specialist Dr. Raheemuddin “Raheem” M. Nazeer has returned to Fox Valley Orthopedics. After a two-year absence to maintain a private rheumatology practice in Rockford, Illinois, Dr. Nazeer is happy to have returned to the Fox Valley…the community he calls home.

“It was a pleasure providing rheumatology care for the Fox Valley community in the past,” says Dr. Nazeer, a board-certified rheumatologist. “I’m honored to have this opportunity to resume my relationship with FVO, its patients, and the community.”

On June 1, 2014, Dr. Nazeer began treating FVO patients again at both the Geneva (North Building) and Elgin office locations. He worked with FVO from 2010 to 2012, specializing in the treatment of arthritis and other rheumatic diseases.

“I enjoy being actively engaged in both the medical and non-medical community,” says Dr. Nazeer. “People want to understand how these diseases work. That’s why I regularly provide educational lectures on topics such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, gout, osteoarthritis, and osteoporosis to community groups as well as to primary care physicians and nurses.”

Characterized by inflammation, swelling, and joint and muscle pain, rheumatic diseases develop when the immune system attacks its own joint linings. Rheumatic diseases include osteoarthritis (joint “wear and tear”), rheumatoid and juvenile arthritis, bursitis, fibromyalgia, lupus, and scleroderma.

Certified by the International Society of Clinical Densitometry as a clinical densitometrist, Dr. Nazeer is a specialist in determining patients’ bone density and mass in order to assess their bone health.

A dedicated researcher, Dr. Nazeer has undertaken clinical trials on lupus, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and Sjögren’s syndrome. He has been on the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford faculty since 2009.

Dr. Nazeer has also made various television appearances to shed light on osteoarthritis and its treatments, as well as on Sjögren’s syndrome…a little-known autoimmune disorder that causes fatigue and joint pain, predominantly in women.

Welcome back, Dr. Nazeer! We are happy to have you, and know our patients will benefit from your special expertise.
