Orthopedic Physician Advances Knee Surgery With Next-Generation Meniscus Restoration

Board-certified orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist Vishal Mehta, MD, recently performed this advanced surgery on a patient whose previous ACL reconstruction had failed and who had lost most of his medial meniscus.

During a prior surgery performed outside of FVO, the patient had a significant portion of his medial meniscus removed, leaving him with ongoing instability, knee pain, and the inability to remain active. After thorough evaluation, Dr. Mehta performed a complex revision: a quadriceps autograft ACL reconstruction and the meniscal restoration with the RejuvaKnee™ meniscal repair implant, developed by Regenity Biosciences. The innovative RejuvaKnee™ implant allowed Dr. Mehta to replace only the damaged segment of the meniscus, rather than the entire meniscus as in traditional transplants.
