Dr. Bardfield is a board-certified physician who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation. He brings 25 years of medical experience and expertise, providing nonsurgical treatment of painful spinal disorders. He evaluates and treats a wide range of pain disorders, including:
- Neck and lower back muscular strains
- Herniated/bulging discs
- Spinal stenosis
- Degenerative disc disease
- Facet joint arthritis
- Sacroiliac (SI) joint dysfunction
Dr. Bardfield believes that carefully listening to a patient’s concerns, performing a directed physical examination, and utilizing imaging studies or electro diagnostics when indicated are the tools for effective diagnosis. Once the pain generator(s) are identified, the implementation of a specific and comprehensive treatment plan allows his patients to quickly return to an active life. Treatment plans usually involve a combination of physical therapy, medications, and injection strategies. His patients are encouraged to be inquisitive, active participants in their recovery. Success can nearly always be achieved without the prolonged use of narcotics.
He performs a variety of precisely targeted X-ray guided spinal injections including:
- Epidural steroid injections
- Facet joint blocks
- RF ablation/neurotomy
- SI joint injections
His decision making is guided by evidence-based medicine regarding spine care and incorporates the latest research findings.
He also performs electro diagnostic testing (EMG/NCS) for evaluation of peripheral nerve and muscular function. This test can diagnose nerve entrapment disorders like carpal tunnel syndrome, pinched nerves in the neck or lower back, or peripheral neuropathy.
If needed, Dr. Bardfield can consult one of Fox Valley Orthopedics orthopedic surgeons to provide excellent surgical care.
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, lifting weights, playing volleyball, running, and rooting for the Bears and Cubs.
